Google Reviews Not Showing Up? 5 Checks Before You Ask Again

A customer tells you they posted a review. Your public profile still looks unchanged. You ask them to try again, but neither of you knows what happened.

Start by checking the evidence before requesting another review.

Google reviews not showing up can involve a publishing delay, a profile change or a content decision. An unchanged star rating can be a separate issue.

Here is a practical process for business owners.

1. Confirm the Review and the Business Location

Ask the customer to check the business name and location they reviewed. Then ask them to inspect the review's status in their Google Maps profile.

Google says contributors can see whether their content has been removed or rejected there. A customer screenshot alone does not explain Google's decision.

Check the business publicly on Search and Maps, and record what is missing. Is it one review that never appeared, or several older reviews that disappeared?

If the customer had trouble posting from an older device, Google recommends updating the Maps app.

2. Separate a Missing Review From a Delayed Rating

Google checks reviews against its policies. Its guidance says this can sometimes take a few days, delaying publication.

Record the submission date and review status. Avoid treating a review posted today as permanently lost.

If the review itself is already visible but your average star rating has not changed, investigate the score separately. Google says an updated review score can take up to two weeks after a new review. That timeframe concerns the score, not a promise that every missing review will appear.

3. Check What Changed on the Business Profile

Have profiles recently been merged? Google says reviews from both profiles can take a few days to display after a merge.

Did the reviews disappear after a suspended profile was reinstated? Google specifically directs businesses in that situation to contact support.

Google also notes that reviews can be temporarily disabled for certain profiles or business categories. If posting is unavailable, check for a notice or restriction before repeatedly sending customers a review link. Keep screenshots of what customers encounter, along with the exact date you first noticed the problem.

Keep a note of the change, its date and any existing case reference. These details make the sequence easier to explain.

Avoid creating another listing as a troubleshooting experiment. Google's guidelines generally call for one profile per business.

Include this history in your Google Business Profile management records.

4. Check the Review Request Process

A real transaction does not make every review request acceptable.

Google prohibits incentives such as discounts or free services in exchange for reviews. It also prohibits selectively requesting positive reviews and asking reviewers to include specific content.

Let customers describe their own experience, in their own words. Review your messages, staff instructions and any review-generation service you use.

Our guide to Google review incentives explains that issue further.

Do not assume a missing review proves wrongdoing. Google acknowledges that enforcement mistakes can happen, and eligible contributors may appeal.

5. Choose the Appropriate Support Route

For an eligible content-removal appeal, the reviewer follows the process available through their Maps profile. Google says editing or deleting the content after submitting an appeal cancels it.

For a business-profile issue, contact Google Business Profile support, explaining the circumstances.

Prepare the profile URL and ID, approximate dates, reviewer display names, relevant screenshots and any previous case reference. Keep customer information within the private support process.

A concise message could read:

“Our Business Profile is [URL]. We noticed [number] reviews missing from [date]. The affected reviews were submitted around [dates]. Our profile was [merged/reinstated/unchanged]. Attached are relevant screenshots and our earlier case reference, if applicable.”

This gives support something specific to investigate.

Keep the Request Process Useful

Continue inviting genuine feedback through the correct review link, without pressure or incentives. Google supports requesting reviews through a business-specific link or QR code.

Keep one dated record of the issue, the evidence and the next action. Give the customer a clear update instead of another unexplained request to repost.
